3.4. Practice Squad
Teams may have five (5) players on their Practice Squad. These are developmental players that are restricted to younger players.
To qualify for the practice squad the following conditions must be met:
Practice Squad players are limited to players in their first or second NFL season.
Practice Squad players must not have spent any time on the active TBL roster of the team attempting to place them on the PS.
Players selected in the TBL entry draft or waiver wire pickups are eligible for the Practice Squad if they meet the conditions listed above.
Notable:
*Practice Squad players do not receive a contract until they are called up to the active roster.
*Practice Squad players do not count towards to team’s roster limit.
*Practice Squad players do not have a salary until they are called up to the active roster.
*Practice Squad players cannot be traded unless they are first called up to the active roster.
*Practice Squad players are not eligible for Injured Reserve unless their contract is purchased and given a contract.
*Once a player is promoted to an active roster they are no longer permitted to return to the Practice Squad.
*Practice Squad players contracts default to $1 million when they are called up and they are signed to a default two (2) year contract.
*Practice Squad players can be purchased by another team. However, the team that has the players have 24 hours to match the contract offer.
*After the season the Practice Squad the players become free agents and are eligible to be signed during the RFA period.
The following protocol must be followed to have players placed on the Practice Squad:
*Teams must announce Practice Squad players on the TBL forum under the Practice Squad thread.
*The TBL Commissioner will add them to the roster with a salary of $0 and no contract years.
The following protocol must be followed to sign a player off a team’s Practice Squad:
*The GM must inform the TBL Commissioner that they are placing a claim on all practice squad players.
*A team must post on the TBL Forum their intention to sign a player from another team’s Practice Squad. They must list the salary offer.
*The TBL Commissioner will inform the team that has rights to the PS player that another franchise has placed an offer. The team that has rights to the player has 24 hours to match the offer. Said team must purchase the contract and salary and promote them to the active roster.
*Players claimed from another team’s Practice Squad are required to be placed on the active roster of the claiming roster. Practice Squad players may not be claimed and placed on the claiming team’s Practice Squad within the same season.
*Team may elect to sign players to contracts. They must announce the terms: (salary and contract years) Team putting in the claim must have the cap available to do this.
*When a player has an offer place on him. It does not become a free agent bidding war. Only the team that has the player on their practice squad has the right to match the offer.
