Post your Reserve QB designations in this forum.
Reserve QB Rules:
Each team will be permitted to designate one QB to be added to their practice squad as a Reserve QB by posting in the appropriate Reserve QB Forum on the boards under the Contracts Thread.
The player designated must be a current free agent.
The player must be the primary real world backup to a starting qb on already on their roster.
That player is added to their practice taking up a sixth practice squad position and will not count against their roster limits or salary cap unless activated.
That player can only be activated if the starting QB ahead of them is placed on the COVID-19 list by their NFL team. A regular injury and trip to the IR by the starting QB does not qualify that player for activation from the Practice squad.
Should the starting QB go on the regular IR, that reserve QB will be subject to open bidding in the COVID-19 forum with the team with the highest bid as of 9:59 PM EST on the Wednesday of that week (similar to RFA bidding but without the matching element) earning the rights to that player on a 1 year 1blb deal (similar to in-season waiver wire addition rules).
This is done to ensure that the Reserve QB is only used for COVID related issues and not as a way to squat on a player in case of normal injury. We wanted to keep this as similar to normal as possible but have COVID protections.
If activated in a COVID situation, the reserve QB is on a one year contract at 1 blb and can be returned to the practice squad when the starting QB is taken off the COVID-19 list.
The Reserve QB, unsigned in open bidding due to non COVID issues, will become a UFA at the end of the season no matter what and cannot be tagged, tendered, or extended.
A player signed in open bidding can be extended/tagged/tendered
A team can change their reserve QB to a different backup at any point in the season by posting the request for change in the forum.
A team that doesn’t have a natural backup available for selection to designate as their Reserve QB can select the third string QB if they choose.
GMs do not have to utilize this option if they do not want to.
