Now that we are UNDERWAY with the 2008 season, I would like to make a few announcements regarding the future of the league as it pertains to the IDP expansion. Rest assured, I will not be turning the reigns over to some alter-ego with a fictional name... sorry guys, you're all stuck with me!
1. The IDP Roster Limit will be lifted AFTER the conclusion of the off-season RFA period. 2. Two additional rounds have been added to the 2009 and 2010 Drafts, which now expand out to 6 rounds in total. These draft picks have been updated, and are now available to you if you choose to include them in a trade. 3. IDP's will be eligible to be drafted in the 2009 draft, beginning in the 5th round. This does not mean that you have to draft IDP's with your 5th or 6th round picks, it just means you cannot draft IDP's with your 1st thru 4th round picks. 4. The Roster Year Cap will REMAIN at 100 contract years. Each GM will continue to manage to those contract years accordingly.
The reason this announcement is being sent out now, rather than after the season is over with, is becuase of the impacts the above will have on the future. I want to make sure that all GM's have ample time to adjust their strategies accordingly. The 2009 draft is now 11-1/2 months away so, please start preparing now!
Thank you and enjoy the season!

Personally, I think we should be able to draft IDPs wherever we want. If someone wants to take an IDP with the first overall pick them let them. We do not have a rule in place that says you cannot draft a kicker with a pick in the 1st round, but it never happens.

By adding picks in the 5th and 6th rounds - and limiting the IDP's to those rounds for the 2009 draft - all GM's are on the same page. Since GM's had already traded away picks from the first 4 rounds of the 2009 draft by the time we agreed to implement IDP's, this was the most feasible solution for ramping up.
Starting with the 2010 draft, you can draft whoever you want, whenever you want.
