I have given this a lot of thought and would like to propose the following plan for incorporating Individual Defensive Players (IDP’s) into TBL 2 beginning with the 2008 season. I believe that this plan will allow us to expand for the future, without compromsing the GM’s ability to manage his future resources (draft picks, BLB’s). This proposal includes the addition of 4 IDP’s into the starting lineup as follows: 1 DL, 1 LB, 1 DB and 1 Flex player (DL, LB or DB) In order to accommodate these roster changes, I am proposing the following: 1. A separate IDP auction draft to be held sometime prior to the start of the 2008 season.
2. Eight (8) IDP’s will be drafted via ‘special’ auction draft where each GM will be alloted 100 BLB’s to be used for this draft. 3. Unused BLB’s from this IDP auction draft will carry over to the GM’s vault.
4. Twenty (20) additional BLY’s will be added to the current allotment of 80, for a total of 100, to allow for contract signings.
5. Roster limits for IDP’s will be capped at 8 players thru 2009. - - This will allow GM’s to add/drop IDP’s, however, it will not allow GM’s to “stock-pile” players.
6. IDP's can be traded, provided that roster limits are not exceeded.
7. In 2009, IDP’s will be included in the annual RFA, UFA and Draft process. - - If a GM already has 8 IDP’s on his roster at the beginning of the 2009 draft, he will not be allowed to draft any IDP’s.
8. Roster maximum’s for IDP’s will be increased to 12 beginning with the 2010 draft.
9. The 2010 draft will be increased to 6 rounds. I believe that the above represents a fair system to all GM’s which should ensure a competitive balance for the league. It enables us to incorporate the IDP’s in 2008 without impacting the 2008 draft, while giving GM’s ample time to prepare for the 2009 draft, if they wish to draft IDP’s. I will be posting my scoring proposal's for IDP's separately.

The addition of IDP's was something that was discussed during our 2007 season - and at the time, the discussions were put off until the off-season so that we could figure out the best way to incorporate them.
Many different options have been proposed, including waiting until 2010 to add them. With that said, TBL2 is going into the direction of adding IDP's, whether it be in 2008, 2009 or 2010 - so does that mean you wouldn't remain in the league when it does happen??

Guys, this in NOT going where it need to go. If the addition of IDPs means that we are going to lose good GMs like Neil or Kyle, I seriously think we need to take a step back.
I think the energy is great, but we need to take this slow and proceed with caution.

Guru, you need to chill out man and stop calling these guys out to quit the league. Just because they do not agree with you does not make them poor GMs. You guys need to relax and allow this to work out. Having ANY of these GMs leave would not be a good thing for any of us. I understand you desire to get IDPs into this league and I am with you, but we need to do it the right way and one that makes ALL involved feel good about the change.
I told several GMs that we would not be making wholesale changes without a vote and that we would take it slow, anything less than that at this point would not be right in my opinion

Chill out? i joined a league based on being told this was a league of elite GMs. I take that kind of talk seriously. when I see GM's quiver and shake because we dare and challenge them, I have to question their gm status.
No one gave a reason why making a change to IDP's hurts the LEAGUE, only how this hurts their personal teams. That is selfish and those are the type owners who hurt leagues and keep leagues frokm moving forward. They keep leagues stale and stagmate.
If someone makes a legitimate reason why the LEAGUE (NOT PERSONALTEAMS) would suffer if IDP's are implemented in 2008 I would listen and respect that. Instead, all I heard was GMs crying that they took they WIN NOW approach and this change would bite them in the ass.
These owners chose to trade picks and now they want to complain? This is a dynasty league and decisions HAVE to be made with a thought of the future. Apparently these GMs didn;t think this way and they want the league to suffer because of it.

I have never said we "have to", just that it's my opinion that we ought to. I am obviously not alone in that thought since others have expressed the same desire. However, I have not heard any legitimate reasons as to why my proposal would not work starting in 2008 other than, "you can't make a change like that". Please - read my proposal and tell me what the down-side is to implementing it this year. Look at the proposal, and tell me what specifically is wrong with it. Believe me - I'll be the first to say 'scrap it' if I thought that it was not a fair and equitable way to incorporate it.

I will look it over. Again, I am not opposed to IDP I'm opposed to implementing them right away, and honestly do not see the need to rush the issue.

That is selfish and those are the type owners who hurt leagues and keep leagues frokm moving forward. They keep leagues stale and stagmate So how many owners does it take to oppose a rule change before it's a league issue and not a personal issue? It's not about making a rule change, it's about allowing owners time to adjust there teams to the rules. all of the current owners did just that. we all realize this is a dynasty league and made moves accordingly. Some moves more severe than others. Changes the rules of the game AFTER all the players are in place, simply isn't right. Just as it isn't in any other game. Personally I vote we all play the game based on the rules we all agreed to play under, and if rules need to be implemented to fill in loop holes that's fine. All MAJOR changes should pass with an overwhelming vote, and set to begin two years to the date.

It takes less time to implement a new President of the United States than IDP's in this league.
Some moves more severe than others? you made severe moves and want the league to pay for it.
I am done on this topic , what happens, happens.

New York, NY (AP) - Note, the NFL decided to implement some rule changes that are believed will significantly help the league as a whole and further prove that the league is the best in the world. Oh, the changes won't be implemented until 2010 so that teams have time to adjust.
What is wrong about the above release? The NFL makes changes to its rules on almost a yearly basis and they get implemented between seasons! I don't understand the thought of this completely changes the game when we're talking about a separate auction draft, giving more blb's for which to draft and sign these players, and it doesn't start affecting your "traded" picks until 2009 or 2010.
I don't want any of the current GM's to leave as I feel this is a great league, check that, THE Great League, but I don't understand the hesistancy. Four of us just took over teams where we had no control of the roster moves, draft picks, trades, etc. and you don't hear us calling for a discount on our league fees because of it.
I don't like the question "Why rush into it?" because I don't view it as rushing, we're months away from RFA or trading and many months away from a draft and playing any games. It's not like today is August 4th, it's February 4th.

I guarantee if the NFL decided to place 14 players on offense and defense they would allow time for the adjustment.

Buddah, I' admit I'm no expert on Auction drafts (this being my first auction league). My inexperience has a big influence on my apprehension. I don't exactly like to jump into a situation when I don't understand it completely. My lack of BLB understanding, just reinforces my apprehension to make changes. Clearly there's still a ton I need to learn. Changing the rules will only add to my confusion.
From what I can gather the IDP rule changes you propose seem fair and look as though they will make everyone happy. But like a Brain surgeon describing his most recent operation, it's all Greek to me.
What I do know, is there's no REAL need to rush the issue. It's a proposal that deserves to be examined and a change to the rules that most certainly NEEDS to be made in order to claim we're all top level fantasy GMs. But I honestly think a rules change of this magnitude needs to be implemented slowly into the league, allowing owners to aduct there teams accordingly

My question is what happens when 2 more vote for IDP... then it's a majority.... OR doesn't the vote count?
I know I'm the new guy and on the bottom of the pecking order, but do some votes of owners weigh more heavily than others?

Loq, i appreciate how you feel, its a lot better to hear that then using your team situation. I am in the same boat as you, this is my first time in this type league. What I will say is IDPs are awesome and addictive. Plus, Buddah is the kind of commissioner a league needs. he will go out of his way to ensure you are not at a competitive disadvantage and you have a full understanding of what is going on.
I love the fact there is a challenge out there still in FF and I am looking forward to embracing it.

I've really said all I have to say on IDPs. All I really want to emphasize here is my respect for Loqutis, and everyone else, despite our different views on this issue. I may not have adequately done that before. This is the third league Kyle and I've been in together. The first two were redraft leagues. In both we happened to be in the same division - Loq beat my butt the first year, and I returned the favor the next. We had some great close games that ultimately determined who won the division both years. Unfortunately, we didn't get to play each other in the RZB last year. We're going to this year, if I've got to pay somebody off to do it. My experience is that Kyle is a great competitor, extremely skilled GM, as well as an always fair, yet firm Commissioner in one of the leagues I was in. He was the deserving GMOY of the RZB last year. Those are some of the reasons why I said previously that I never disagree with him lightly. I've never doubted his motives, and don't here. I should have perhaps emphasized that more than I did, because that can get lost in the "war of words". I am very heartened that Loq will stay with the league. I will, too. And I hope that everyone else will as well, despite any misgivings they may have when this is ultimately decided one way or the other. This is a terrific "Cast of 16" that Rob has both kept together, and assembled. Bottomline, I think a healthy discussion on these issues can make this an even better league, and result in some great, great rivalries down the road. This league will be terrific if we can all keep our emotions in check (at least to some extent), and our eye on the prize of just having some plain old fun. ----------------------------- P.S. I just read what I wrote above. I should have been a preacher. Sorry. You're all free to go throw-up now....

geez Barrister I don't know what to say. I appreciate all your kind words. and it goes without saying but I have the same respect for you
Even though I may be the one doing most of the speaking, I see I'm not the only owner concerned about certain rule changes. Open discussions and an open mind is the only way to go. I originally thought the HC position should be modified but after reading Ron and Barristers points on making rule changes now, I feel we need to go with the current rules as is, without any changes.
Again, we've already had enough turmoil this season, we don't need to manufacture more. I think a little stability will do the league some good.
