I just couldn't resist sharing this with the rest of the TBL2 - it's a blog entry from our old pal Odieman on the topic of Fantasy Football:

END OF FANTASY FOOTBALL IN MY LIFE
It's no secret that I am a dedicated football fan. Ever since the days of the Kardiac Kids I've followed the Browns with a passion. Ever since I attended and graduated from Ohio State I have been a die-hard Buckeye fan. For many years I have also been an avid fantasy football player. From the days of getting the paper and converting stats from the previous day's games to the explosion of fantasy football on the internet I have been a semi-junkie on the game. I've played in a lot of leagues with a lot of different people. The best leagues I've played in have been with friends where we can get together in person for our drafts, drink some beer and eat wings and pizza while we watch games and turn the game into a great social event throughout the football season. Unfortunately with my job I have not been able to play in a league like that for a few years now. However fantasy football has turned into a shallow shell of what it once was with the explosion of the internet fantasy sports business. Now we have intraverts with a lot of esteem issues that turn the game into their personal ego trip, basing much of their confidence on how well they can play the game against faceless competition. What happened to the original point of the game, which is to have fun and get together with your friends? Can you really be friends with some fantastic sounding avatar on a fantasy football internet site? I tried to keep my interest in the game alive and gave the internet business every shot I could, but in the end the shallowness of the children playing the game online takes all the fun out of it. Too much B.S. and high school antics. After some thought this weekend, I've decided to end playing online fantasy football in my life. For the little return the internet version gave me, it sure seemed to take a lot of my time that I could spend on more worthwhile endeavors. And I just don't have patience for the immature people and their confidence issues. Oh, I still enjoy playing fantasy football, but until I find a league with people I know that I can get together with in person to play, I'm just not going to waste any more of my life on it.
